Steeped in mirrors and all things twinkling, Abhinav Mishra is a name that has become synonymous with celebration wear. His clothes feature happy tints in simple fuss-free silhouettes that are bound to enhance every wearer. While lehengas are his strength, he also delves into other traditional Indian-wear that comes in his signature style.
What began in 2014, as a creative arm of his wedding styled mind, Abhinav Mishra became the fastest growing Indian wear designer since. His journey started in Lucknow, where he went to the prestigious Wigan & Leigh and studied fashion and design. With a keen bent of mind towards all things artsy, the designer then went on to working for some of the most renowned wedding decor companies, one of which was Rani Pink of which he is till today, a partner. From then on, it was the enamour of the fashionscape that caught his attention and has never left since… he has been known to create what we today call the perfect definition of the modern Indian woman—traditional silhouettes and crafts in a contemporary avatar.
His signature is defined by the revival of the exquisite mirror work of India. It is usually highlighted on patterns, pastel colours and new easy silhouettes. Mirror work is one of those techniques that merge seamlessly with a multitude of other techniques. Be it phulkari, jaal work, butta embroidery or even incorporated tastefully with gota work. The versatility of mirror work is also seen in the range of fabrics it works on. Lighter fabrics like chiffons and net and also, heavier more structured fabrics like silk and velvet- mirror work lends its own charm to each of these.
“Designing, for me, is a beautiful form of art that allows unique manifestations of one’s ideologies that get representation in the world through one’s designs. My designs are also a reflection of Indian culture and its various facets. It is for a modern traditionalist who is the life of the party and follows her unique path. My collection reflects the constantly evolving, dynamic and diverse India that we live in.”Abhinav Mishra
What’s on showcase?
In addition to his traditional mirror work lehengas there will also be a look into ‘Mehzabeen’ his last collection that was launched with Sonam Kapoor and takes its inspiration from his roots in Lucknow juxtaposed with the quaint allure of vintage Jaipur. Think bright florals, elaborate gota patti and an endless array of mirrors.
What we love?
All things pink! Abhinav Mishra has this uncanny love for a very particular hue of pink that magically uplifts the Indian skin tone, think berry meets bubblegum, it’s a must have!
